Producer Recycling Fund

Protecting the environment for generations to come

Protéger notre planète.The ecological system is at risk and improvements need to be made to our consumption habits.

Electrical or electronic products – at end-of-life stage – that are mixed in with general waste products are not being used to their full potential and can become dangerous for the environment and a health-risk for human beings depending on substances present in the products.

It is therefore our responsibility to support appropriate waste management of end-of-life recyclable electrical or electronic products.

Directive of the European Parliament on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

From Saturday, August 13th 2005 under new WEEE Regulations regarding the composition of electrical and electronic equipment and the elimination of resulting waste, the WEEE recycling value chain is effective.

From this day on we must improve the preservation of the environment and avoid waste of primary materials.

New regulation:

Separate collection: An adapted treatment

This regulation supports recyclable-waste collection of electrical and electronic equipment and appropriate consequential processing, with a view to recycle and reuse the waste.

Dangerous components from some equipment can be isolated using an adapted treatment and the product can be better recycled.

Financing of the recycling value chain

Environmental Management costs are being introduced under the 2002 EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) to fund the recycling, processing and safe disposal of old electronic equipment

The amount corresponds to the cost of recycling for an end-of-life product and is entirely given to the compliance scheme for waste from electrical and electronic equipment in charge of recycling the end-of-life product. The amount may vary mostly depending on the category. Other factors are taken into account to determine the volume of material that can be recycled (if it contains hazardous components, weight, capacity of a fridge, size of a TV screen for instance).

All products on the website that are subject to this environmental management cost will systematically show three distinct prices: the product price, the Producer Recycling Fund cost (PRF) and the total price.

Recyclable-waste collection for end-of-life products

This selective collection will ensure the recycling of current products on the market once they reach the end-of-life stage.

  • Pixmania offers to collect your electrical or electronic end-of-life products for free. In order to arrange for a free take-back, please contact our Customer Service by e-mail or by phone at 0818 244 100 (National Rate).

    Conditions for collecting end-of-life goods

    • The system is based on "1 product collected for the purchase of 1 product".
    • Products must be from a similar category or have the save function. For example, if you purchase a camera, we will take your old camera back and ensure free recycling in an ecological manner. If you purchase a computer, we will not take back your old television or mobile phone.
    • You will be notified 24 hours before the collection of your product by Parcelforce. Please ensure that the old product has been cleaned and disconnected from any utilities and is ready for immediate collection
  • Pixmania also offer free in-store take back with the help from Dixons, Currys and PC World. Please note that you need to bring the invoice proving the purchase of the new product from Pixmania when you take back your old product. We accept in-store take back within 30 days after delivery of the new product. Please click here to see the list of stores available.

  • Local authorities accept household WEEE free of charge at its civic amenity site from members of the public. For more information about removal services or areas where products can be brought to in their local area, please contact your local authority.
